How To Manually Install Fallout 4 Mods
Archive Extractors
You will need an archive extractor such as 7zip, WinRar, or other solution.
Finding Your Data Folder
This is where you will install Fallout 4 modification files.
- The default location for your data folder is within your steam games installation directory:
- C: Program Files Steam steamapps Common Fallout 4 Data
Where Is The Fallout 4 Manual
- An alternative method for finding your installation directory:
- In Steam, right-click the game title > Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files > Then open the “data” folder.
You have now found your data folder. Remember this location.
Installing Loose files
'Loose files' refers to a mod who’s content files are separate, individually contained within an archive that must be extracted to your data folder.
- To install, extract the contents of the mod archive to your data folder.
- If the archive already contains a ‘data’ folder, extract it directly to your installation directory instead.
That’s it! You should now be able to load the game and see the installed mod in action.
Installing Plugins
Plugins are mods that are packaged as self-contained ESP files (.esp). These plugins must be extracted to your data folder and unlike loose files, must be enabled via the plugins.txt file.
- To install a plugin, simply extract the archive to your data folder.
- If the archive already contains a ‘data’ folder, extract it directly to your installation directory instead.
After installation, plugins must be enabled before they will be active in-game.
Enabling Plugins
Plugins, unlike loose files, must be enabled in Fallout 4 by adding them to your plugins.txt file before they are active in-game.
- Locate your plugins.txt file in your Fallout 4 AppData folder
- This folder is hidden by default. To ensure that you are able to see hidden files in windows file explorer, access Tools > Folder Options > View > then select “Show Hidden Files”
- The Fallout 4 AppData folder can be found in “C:/Users/[YourUsername]/AppData/Local”
- Alternatively, in windows explorer, you can type “%LocalAppData%/Fallout4” into the browser bar and be taken directly to this folder.
- Run the Fallout 4 Launcher (do not run the game) then quit the launcher. This will populate your plugins.txt file with the newly added ESP file.
- Open the plugins.txt file located in Fallout 4's AppData folder with a text editor such as Notepad++
- Ensure the new ESP file is listed.
If you enabled modding correctly as described in the 'How to Enable Fallout 4 mod support' section at the top of this page, the mod (ESP file) you are installing will be now listed in this file, after the Fallout 4 launcher is run. If not, you may try manually add the mod to this list as a whole filename with extension (ie. yourmod.esp).
After confirming the ESP file is listed in your plugins.txt file, you are done! You should now be able to see the mod you installed active in-game.

WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE GAME FILES
Removing files from your installation directory can be risky and might result in having to reinstall the game. We recommend using Nexus Mod Manager to make the installation and removal of mods safer and easier.
Removal of loose files
Verify the files used by the mod you would like to remove by examining the original archive. Remove files you confirm to be used by the mod.
Be very careful about removing core game files that the mod may have over-written. Doing so may damage your game installation.
Removal of plugins
Removing plugins is somewhat safer than loose-files in that plugins are self-contained and will not affect the integrity of the game installation when removed.
Verify the files used by the mod you would like to remove by examining the original archive. Remove files you confirm to be used by the mod.
Deactivating Plugins
Plugins can be deactivated by modifying the plugins.txt file (as described in the installation process) and removing the line that references the plugin you wish to deactivate.
How to verify game integrity
Should you ever find yourself in need of repairing your game installation, Steam has a handy tool that will help:
In Steam, right-click the game title > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Cache
This will ensure that your game installation is valid and in working order, though this may disable / invalidate any mods that were installed before starting the process.

Caliente's Beautiful Bodies Enhancer is a mod for Fallout 4, created by Caliente and Ousnius.
Description:
CBBE replaces the vanilla female body that all adult female characters (player and NPC) share, with one that is fully customizable with the BodySlide tool. By default there are three nude options available that don't require anything but installation, as well as lore-friendly underwear styles for these body shapes (using Beth's own unused underwear meshes).
These meshes have a total of over 21k vertices - compared to the vanilla body's modest 1750 - for optimal smoothness. In tests there have been no reports of these high-poly meshes causing any slow down, but may still be too much for weaker systems to use, so be warned. Also, as a separate download, are a selection of vanilla outfits converted to CBBE and BodySlide.
Instructions:
Add the following lines to your 'Fallout4Custom.ini' file located in 'DocumentsMy GamesFallout4':
[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=
(No, that's not a typo. You also don't need to add it again if it's already there; doing so is both redundant and silly.)
Manual
Download the file and extract the options you need into your Data folder using 7-zip.
Mod Organizer/Nexus Mod Manager
Install the archive with Nexus Mod Manager like you would do with any other mod.

Fallout 4 mods have finally been added to Xbox One. So I thought I'd go over the process you need to go through to install them. These mods let you change the way the game is played in new and unique ways, such as using lightsabers, or activating cheats.
Keep in mind that installing mods will make a separate save file for your character, and achievements are disabled on that file.
How to Install Mods on Xbox One
The first thing you need to do is sign up for a bethesda.net account if you don't already have it. You can do this at the official site.
- You will also need a valid email address because you must verify your account by clinking the link they give you in the email.
- Launch Fallout 4 on your Xbox One, then select 'Mods' from the main menu.
- Log in to your bethesda.net account, then you'll see the list of mods.
- Select the mods you want, then click download.
While looking at the Mods section, you can scroll to the top to see which mods you currently have loaded.
You can also select the order they are loaded in by pressing Y to bring up the order menu, then X to change the order. Some mods need to load in a certain order for them to work, so carefully read each mod you download.
It is important to note that you can only have 2 GB worth of mods loaded at 1 time, so pay attention to how much space you have left.
The good news is that most of the mods don't take up a lot of space, so you shouldn't have to worry too much unless you're trying to download everything.
Remember these are 3rd party mods and Bethesda does not create any of them. Some mods may have issues or not work. If this happens, simply disable the mod in question.
You will also not see some mods that the PC versions have, such as those which include nudity or copyright infringement.
Let me know if you have any other questions about getting Fallout 4 mods on your Xbox One!

How to Install Mods on Consoles | Xbox One & PS4
NOTE: Mods are a planned feature on PS4 but are not yet released on that platform. According to Bethesda’s website, the process for installing mods on Xbox One and PS4 should be identical. If something changes when the PS4 mods are released, we’ll update this article with the information you need.
- Download and install the latest patch on console. Reset the console and insert your Fallout 4 physical media or start the application while connected to the internet to begin downloading.
- Register for an account on Bethesda.net here. If you don’t already have one, register right here.
- Next, go to the Bethesda.net Mods tab here to begin browsing mods available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
- In the upper-right above the mod thumbnails, you’ll find a drop-down menu where you can filter the mods based on console or PC compatibility. Select your preferred platform and begin browsing.
- On the Mods main menu option, you’ll be able to browse available mods as well.
- There is a 2 GB limit to the amount of mods you can have active on console.
- In the Mods main menu option, you can also change the mod load order or deactivate current mods, allowing you to swap mods in and out from your library and easily manage the 2 GB mod limit.
- While browsing mods, select “Add to Library” to save the mod, adding it to your linked account on console.
- Load your console copy of Fallout 4 and open the Mods main menu option to find the full list of mods added to your library.
- Remember, you can enable/disable mods from the Mods main menu option or reorder them. Always load the most important mods first by placing them in the first few slots of the load order list.
- With the mods you’ve selected enabled, simply load your most current game and enjoy.
Changing the load order of mods and adding mods will always generate a new save file so that your previous un-modded save files are not corrupted, ruined, or crash. Mods are community-driven projects and have not been thoroughly tested, and many mods may conflict with each other. If you download lots of mods, expect to run into technical issues. It’s just inevitable!
Otherwise, enjoy all the new content available to you. The Commonwealth just got a little weirder.
